Summer Camps

Newport School District is excited to offer camp opportunities for the summer of 2024!  We hope you will consider signing up for one of our fun and engaging camps led by our district educators!  There are many different fun and creative camps to choose from and they are all offered for FREE for this summer due to available grant funding!

Sign up now before it's too late!  Space is Limited! Signing up does NOT guarantee a spot in the camp.  Please look for a confirmation email stating that you are "officially enrolled" in the camp that you signed up for this summer from the teacher leading the camp.

Transportation is NOT provided.  A Bag Lunch WILL be provided.

June 10 - June 20 (Mon-Thurs): TWO Week Camp

Jewelry Making!

Full Day 2 Week Camp, 9am-3pm

Grades 7-12

Students will learn how to design/plan their own jewelry, as well as how to make their own beads for jewelry. We will make several different pieces of jewelry during this camp through a variety of techniques and mediums. Due to the level of skill needed, this camp is targeted for older students.

Paddle Away Kayak Camp

Gardening in Cursive

Full Day Camp, 9am - 3pm

Grades 8-12

The Paddle Away Kayak Program will provide students with a unique opportunity to explore Holman Lake located in Little Buffalo State Park.  Students will also participate in the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Online Boater Safety Course to learn how to be safe on the water.  The PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Environmental Education Specialist will join us on site as a resource for Environmental Education of the Park. The Camp will run rain or shine.

Grades 4-6

Students will have hands-on experience with gardening in the 4th grade garden and will also practice/enrich their cursive writing abilities. The culminating activity will be to create plant name plates/signs in cursive for the garden.

Have fun with LEGOs and explore STEAM concepts during this hands on camp!  Engaging in math, engineering, science and social emotional skills will encourage students to become more independent thinkers!

Students will be learning the process of stained glass.  They will complete an introductory project using creative thinking and artistic expression.  Students will bring home a project at completion!

Dive into the world of tabletop games, from card games to board games - have fun strategizing and playing games with your classmates.  From classics like Uno, to games you may have never heard - Sushi Go & Color Brain - bring your game face to have some fun!  Have a game that you like?  Bring it to share and teach the group your favorite family game. Half Day Camp, 9am - 12pm

During this camp, your student will be taught tumbling and cheerleading skills based on their ability. They will work in small and large groups and will be able to show you what they learned on Thursday at the end of the camp!

Baking and Cake Decorating

Half Day Camp, 9am-12pm

Grades 6-8

Students will bake, decorate and take home their creations all while learning kitchen safety, food handling, following recipes, measuring ingredients, creative thinking, collaboration and becoming an expert in the kitchen!

Full Day Camp, 9am-3pm

Students will be enjoying a week of nerf blaster fun!  Students will create targets, compete and create obstacle courses all while working as a team.  Focus areas will be team building, problem solving, strategizing and fitness!

Sphero Robotics Camp (MORNING SESSION)

Robotics with Sphero Bolt robots will engage students with coding activities that build upon each other with increasing challenges.  Campers will be familiarized with the features of their robot and introduced to activities that start with the basics such as drawing activities and block coding and work their way up to engineering challenges and art exploration.  Culminating activities will be having fun with games.  Truly a STEAM Camp experience for our Newport Students!

Hiking Camp

Full Day Camp, 9am - 3pm

Grades 4-5

Hiking is an excellent way to experience the outdoors and get needed exercise. It is an activity that can become part of a healthy lifestyle for the rest of your child's life.  Sign up and have your child experience the outdoors through hiking adventures at four different central PA locations!  Hikes range from three to five (3-5) miles long. Each hiker would need a water bottle, sturdy hiking shoes/boots, and bug spray if desired.

July 15 - July 25 (Mon-Thur): TWO Week Camp

Welcome to Hogwarts! Harry Potter Camp

Full Day Camp (2 Weeks), 9am-3pm

Grades 4-8

Students will make snacks and drinks from Harry Potter, learn to play Quidditch and participate in other crafts and "potion" making all while learning recipes and measurement, engaging in physical fitness and improving fine motor and problem solving skills.

July 29 - August 1 (Mon-Thurs)

STEAM Explorers Camp

Full Day Camp, 9am-3pm

This camp will be geared toward middle school students to generate excitement for STEAM classes they may take in the future. STEAM Explorers camp will focus on growing problem solving and critical thinking skills through cross curricular activities, collaboration, citizen science, and hands on learning.   

August 5 - August 8 (Mon-Thur)

Fiber Arts Camp

Hands on Fun with Osmo!

Half Day Camp, 9am-12pm

Grades 4-12

This is a one week half day camp for students interested in various fiber arts.  Each student will crochet and be introduced to loom bracelet making, latch hook (create pictures with yarn), weaving on a loom (potholders and coasters), and loom knit (hats and infinity scarves).   ALL skill levels will foster a love of this fiber art.  The possibilities are endless for what students want to create: scarves, hats, blankets, pencil pouches, washcloths.  Gear up for Newport Football and Field Hockey games by making your own Blue and White gear!  We will also take a trip to our own Fiber Arts store in Newport - Humble Stitch!  Students will have the opportunity to shop for their own yarns and accessories to use in camp!

This summer camp is an opportunity for students to ignite their creativity and technology skills with the OSMO!  “Osmo puts the fun in building learning fundamentals through the magic of hands-on play, tangible pieces and digital fun!”  In this half day week long camp, each student will have a chance to play with individual kits, using physical game pieces to play digital games to draw, code, count, spell, create stories, and so much more!  For those already familiar with OSMO - we will be interacting with the following sets: sticks and rings, tangram, numbers, Pizza Company, Monsters, Coding Family, and words.
